Welcome to the Webmaster's Page

The club's website has become an important tool in keeping our members informed about all kinds of club news. We have information about our events like the upcoming Pirates on the Run, the results of completed races, information about our members, and interactive sections that allow members to post messages for others to view.

Here's a brief summary about some of the main sections. (Click on the buttons to go to that section.)

Is a listing of races in Northeast Florida that are within reasonable driving distance from Fernandina Beach. Members should try to car-pool when going to far away places like Orange Park

Has a listing of items like Newsletters, Meeting Minutes, or Running Articles, that aren't current but are still of interest to members or new visitors to our website. Runners who are living on past glories will especially like this section.

You will find pages with photos from past events. Once a page is more than a year old, we may delete that page from the website to conserve storage space on our server. We encourage members to download their favorite photos from this section before we press the [DELETE] key.

This is our interactive message board. We encourage members to use it and will try to make new postings more visible on the website. Don't be afraid to use the forum. If you make a mistake, we can delete your entry so you can re-do it. If you use offensive language, we will also delete your entry. Here are the most recent postings from the Topic - "Use of headphones during race."

Jonathan Mar 22, 2008 I was volunteering and giving course directions for the 2008 Pirate Run. I have a very loud voice. In spite of that numerous runners wearing headphones were completely tuned out and did not hear the instructions & ran the wrong way. This was along a road with traffic. One writer posted that each runner was responsible for their own safty, but in a race you are also endangering others.
Frieda Mar 22, 2008 I have been running and racing for over 30 years and during that time lots of runners have made contact with me during races in the way of elbowing me or stepping on the back of my shoes. In large races, you need to be concentrating on your running and the conditions around you. Recently, at the gym, a woman was standing in front of the weight rack, with her headphones on, and when I tried to get her to let me put the weights back on the rack she couldn't hear me. Finally her boyfriend got her attention and she returned to the reality of the situation. It seems to me that more and more folks want to be zoned out with their headphone distractions than paying attention to what's going on in the real world around them. When I run, I like to look at the sights and hear the sounds of nature.
Bradley Bunch Dec 06, 2008 I run without music. In cross country and track, we cant listen to those during races so we have to practice without them. But to each his own... if you want to listen to them, they can sometimes make you forget how long the race is hahaha

Late Breaking News

When you first open the website, you can expect to find the most recent events to appear at the top of the page. We will try to keep the front page refreshed so you won't be met with the same stuff over a long period of time.

A little further down the page there are two sections; one has a brief list of "What's Next?" in terms of races and club activities, and the other is named, "Latest Website Updates" where we list things that have recently moved off the top of the front page.

If you want to view a Race Calendar that covers much of the Southeastern Section, go to link to Ken Bendy's Calendar. On the same line is a link to information on the RRCA Website.

At the bottom of the main page is the List of Sponsors supporting our Pirates Run event. The financial success of our club depends on the generous support of these local companies. Please patronize them whenever possible, and let them know you appreciate their support of the Amelia Island Runners.

Have you seen members of the Amelia Island Runners wearing attractive club t-shirts, singlets and hooded sweat tops? You can purchase them at our races or order them by mail from our Club Merchandise Coordinator.

Our Club's Bimonthly Newsletter, Runner's Hi! has been our primary communications media since the club was founded. Our members look forward to receiving our Award Winning publication in the mail and it's also available on our website.

Finally, one of the best means for members to contact the officers and race directors of Amelia Island Runners, is by sending an e-mail. Let us hear about your ideas for improving the club. Unfortunately we don't have an economic stimulus package on the horizon., but we would like to receive comments and stories and photos about events in which you have participated.

Being the Webmaster for the Amelia Island Runners gives me the opportunity to pursue a hobby that I truly enjoy and be involved with a group of people who share my belief in the value of regular physical activity.

You can e-mail me at AIRwebsite@aol.com
Best wishes,
Norm Wyner
