2008 REINDEER RUN

5K/10K RUNS * 1.5 MILE WALK * KIDS' RUNS

Ah, the joys of holiday traditions - jingle bells, family fun, good food, gifts and surprises. There will be a visit from Santa Claus too. And you don't have to wait until Christmas! We're talking about the 2008 Reindeer Run!

It's the Amelia Island Runners' annual gift to the area running community, and it's this coming Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Atlantic Recreation Center, 2500 Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach.

The 5K/10K races start at 8:30 a.m., with a 1.5-mile walk following the runners. All of the routes will be almost entirely through beautiful Fort Clinch State Park, and the 5K/10K will be scored with electronic "Champion Chip" timing.

Fun runs for kids 10 and younger will start at 9:45 a.m. - All runners will receive Jingle Bells for their shoes. - Parents are encouraged to run with their children in the fun runs, for free.


Preregistered adult walkers and runners will receive a coupon good for a free breakfast at the beachfront Elizabeth Pointe Lodge. At the Elizabeth Pointe Lodge you'll enjoy a sumptuous breakfast buffet and a spectacular ocean view!

Adult runners and walkers will also be eligible for the post-race raffle prize of a four-day, three-night stay at the Amelia Island Plantation. (Save your bib number for the raffle and you must be present to win.)

Awards will be presented to the top 5K/10K male and female winners in these categories: Overall winner, Masters (age 40 and over), Grandmasters (50 and over), and three-deep in 14 age groups.

All preregistered runners and walkers will receive a Reindeer Run holiday-themed t-shirt.

FREE BREAKFAST FOR PREREGISTERED ADULT RUNNERS AND WALKERS: Race Director John McBrearty with David Caples, owner of Elizabeth Pointe Lodge.
Registration for the 5K, 10K and 1.5-mile noncompetitive walk is $25 through race day. Registration for the children's runs is $10 per person.

Entry forms are available at the McArthur Family YMCA on Citrona Drive, Red Otter Outfitters and Pak's Karate Academy. Preregistration ends at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.

Packet pickup will be Friday, Dec 12 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the YMCA, with race-day registration at the Recreation Center from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Runners also will need to pick up their Champion Chips on race morning unless they preregister to use their own chips.

Insurance regulations disallow strollers, dogs, and the use of headphones in the 5K/10K. Free parking will be available at the Rec Center and at Main Beach, with no parking along Atlantic Avenue.

Proceeds will benefit the Healthy Families/Healthy Star programs of the Nassau County Health Department, Friends of Fort Clinch, and the Nassau Humane Society.
